Here we are, in this place,
Standing, breathing, finding space.
Roots below, sky above,
All as one in light and love.
— Miss Lisa, a Sprouts founder
Parents and caregivers drop children off at the chicken coop! The children start their day with farm chores: feeding the chickens, goats, and ducks and collecting eggs to bring to the farmstand.
After we have taken care of our farm chores, we gather to greet each other, observe and discuss the weather and our plans for the day. The children make connections with each other and the world around them.
Children collect their backpacks and we all walk together down the farm road to the yurt. We observe changes on the farm, navigate all sorts of terrain (muddy puddles are a favorite) and engage in lots of great conversation!
After the children have a snack, we like to provide a large chunk of time for open-ended free play. Children enjoy fort-building, tree-climbing, swinging, creating delicious items in our mud kitchen, investigating animal tracks, and developing their own imaginative games. We also go hiking, provide art materials, and do seasonal activities.
We all help clean up from our morning's activities and prepare for lunch. If the weather is not fun for eating outside, we will have lunch inside the yurt. Otherwise, we eat at picnic tables outside or occasionally bring our lunches into the forest for a picnic.
We end our day with a story and our closing circle, where we reflect on our day and look forward to our next adventures.
At the end of our day, we all hike back to the chicken coop to meet up with the parents and caregivers.
*Our daily rhythm follows the natural flow of the seasons and responds to weather, children's interests, and farm activities.
